Connections pt.2

Hey everybody, I hope you have enjoyed the blog so far but there will not be many spoilers in the blog because if there were you would not need to watch the show if you have not watched the show already, but in this blog I will not be giving away all the connections in the show. This is a part 2 so there is already a video in the spoiler tab that went into further detail about the connections so there won’t be a video going along with this post. This blog is going to be different because I have talked about all the seasons of American Horror Story so far and I already started talking about one connection but there are more connections to touch on but not every connection will be discussed but certain connections will be touched on but before we get into that lets recap about last week’s blog. If you have not read last week’s blog please do because you will get more details. Last week I talked about  a connection in the show how the series touches on Dante’s Inferno the 9 circles of hell which every season so far touches on each level except for Lust which would be very interesting to see how that goes. Now that we touched on that let’s get into this week’s blog.

Now if you have noticed AHS shares a connected universe through all 8 seasons some connections are very noticeable and some you may not have dawned on or piece together.

According to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=433&v=sxDEEd51RoE

One of the biggest connections is Location but specifically Massachusetts. In Murder House the Harmon’s move from Boston to LA. In Asylum Briarcliff Manor was built there in 1908. In Coven there were flashbacks of the Salem witch trials but also it is stated in the show that the witches in coven fled Salem to come to New Orleans for a safe place. Freak Show Elsa Mars worked in a Boston Circus in the 1930’s and it is where Pepper lived before she was committed into the asylum. Another Location connection is Florida specifically Jupiter, it is where Freak Show took place but in the first episode of Murder House Mrs. Harmon mentioned that she had a family in Jupiter Florida it is possible that she is related to the Doctor that Desriee visited in Freak Show because he mentioned that his daughter was from Boston so there is a chance they are related.

Now another connection are the characters, one character that is related in the AHS series is Lana Winters. Lana Winters is one of the stars of Asylum because she is a reporter that wanted to expose Briarcliff Manor’s darkest secrets unfortunately things turned for the worst for her when she got committed but she barely survived and ended up doing a tell all by writing a book and getting Briarcliff closed in the early 1970’s. She gave an interview with Lee Harris in Roanoke because she was accused of murder. She tried to get an interview with Ally in Cult but was unsuccessful. Billie Dean Howard is a medium that showed up in Murder House and Hotel. She was in Murder House because she was hired to get in contact with Constance son Tate. She also foreshadows Roanoke in Murder House as well. She appears in Hotel to interview the ghost of John who is a serial killer who helps run her out of the Hotel. Edward Mott appeared in Roanoke because he is the original owner of the house. He is the ancestor of the Mott’s in Freak Show including the serial killer Dandy Mott and his mom Gloria. Pepper first comes up in Asylum but that is not where her story begins. She was first in the Freak Show with her husband Salty and they were a double act in the show but when her husband died Elsa sent her to live with Pepper’s sister who is disgusted by her and frames the killing of their child on Pepper so they do not have to deal with their child looking the same way Pepper does and gets rid of Pepper so they do not have to deal with Pepper either which gets her sent to Briarcliff Manor. Now one thing that is probably not noticed is that in Cult on the Twisty comic book Jimmy Darling, Pepper, Meep, and Twisty the clown.

Now this is only a sneak peek of the connections but maybe next week I will give you the rest of the connections. I hope you will enjoy this week’s post and please read previous post. Remember I am Briana giving you insight into the world of American Horror Story

Connections

Hey everybody, I hope you have enjoyed the blog so far but like always there will not be that many spoilers in the blog because if there were you would not need to watch the show if you have not watched the show already. But there will be a video about more of the connections in the spoiler tab. This blog is going to be different because I have talked about all the seasons of American Horror Story so far but one thing that I did touch on were the connections in the show, so for this blog I will not be giving away all the connections in the show. But before we get into that lets recap about last week’s blog, so if you have not read last week’s blog please do because you will get more details.  Last week I talked about the new season called Apocalypse. I gave a clip of the trailer along with talking about the background, the plot, and my opinion of the season so far.  Now this blog is also different because there will not be a video about the connections in the blog but there will be sites you can go to or you can go to the spoiler tab and see the video. Now since that is out the way lets get started.

Now if you have not noticed AHS shares a connected universe through all 8 seasons, some connections are noticeable and some are not so easy to easy to notice and some if you think about it you see it is a connection.

Now according to https://www.reddit.com/r/AmericanHorrorStory/comments/6qg11s/ryan_posts_about_the_9_circles_of_hell_theory/there is a post that says American Horror Story mirrors the 9 circles of hell from Dante’s Inferno saying that Limbo (Murder House) Gluttony (Hotel) Greed(Freak Show) Anger(Roanoke) Heresy(Cult) Fraud(Asylum) Treachery(Coven) and a season just focused on Lust and Violence has not come up yet.  But in my opinion Apocalypse is about Violence.

Now I can see how the seasons can be connected by this theory and it makes sense. In Murder House everybody in the house except for the Harmon family at first are in Limbo because there are stuck in the house and cannot ever leave and yes that is shown in Roanoke as well but that is not the main theme in Roanoke. Fraud in Asylum is because everything was not what it seemed one of the main therapist was posing as a therapist while trying to get a personal gain of Lana Winters to be his next victim along with the fraud of the Doctor while not telling anyone he does experiments on the patients along with other things but you have to watch the season to find out the rest. Treachery for Coven because everybody ended up backstabbing everybody in the whole season to get what they wanted or for the greater good.  Greed with Freak Show was between Dandy Mott and Elsa Mars because Dandy was greedy because he wanted more because he got everything he wanted and when he did not he had a temper tantrum by murdering the freaks or murdering people who did not like him which got him killed. Elsa Mars was greedy because she wanted to be in show biz and whenever she got the chance to be in show biz she took it and ended up being her ultimate demise as well. Gluttony came with hotel because the people who owned the hotel originally was very gluttonous James March was when it came to his murder spree and even brought in a detective to complete his work without the detective even remembering what he did.  The countess was gluttonous for what she did to keep everyone in line and to keep her children alive as well.  Roanoke was about Anger because the Butcher was angry that the men was not grateful for what she did to keep the colony alive and because of that they ended up tethered to the land against their will. Cult is Hersey because the brother’s opinion challenged religion. Now I think Apocalypse is Violence because they are creating violence to get what the Antichrist wants at the end of the day. This how this theory works out.

Now I hope you enjoyed this week’s post and please keep reading. If you have not read the previous post please do. Next week I will be getting into more into the connections through the seasons. Please check out the spoiler tab. Remember that I am Briana bringing you insight inside the world of American Horror Story.

Apocalypse

Hey everybody, I hope you have been enjoying the blog so far but like always there will not be many spoilers in the blog because if there were if you have not watched the show you would not have to watch the show. But there will be an extra spoiler in the spoiler scene tab for you to check out after reading the blog. But like said last week this blog will be different because season 8 is not finished but is still on air right now so I hope you are enjoying it so far as I am but before we get into that, lets recap. The recap is not to replace previous blog so please read the previous one if you have not, it has more details than the the recap. Last week’s post was about the 7th miniseries called Cult which was an interesting season but you have to watch the season to find out why.  I talked about the trailer, background, the plot, and how I felt about the show as well. Now since that is out the way lets get started with a clip from the current season the 8th miniseries of American Horror Story called Apocalypse:

Since this week is different, I thought I would keep with showing the trailer instead of a scene from the show but there will be a scene from the season in the spoiler tab, if you want to see a sneak peek of what happens. But I used this clip to give a sense of what is going on this season without completely giving away the whole season so far and I think it is very good because this topic has been talked about so much through the years and how it is done I love but before I get into that lets get into some background about the season first.

The season was announced on January 12, 2017 and premiered on September 12, 2018. This is American Horror Story first crossover between Murder House and Coven which is the 1st and 3rd seasons, which I love the idea of the crossover and it works so well for the idea of this season. Many of the cast members from previous seasons do return but there is one new cast member Cody Fern. Now since a little of the background of the show is out the way lets get into the plot.

Apocalypse takes place in the West Coast of the United States in the near future. Following a nuclear blast that wipes out the world, Outpost 3, an underground bunker, is constructed in order to shelter specific survivors with strong genetic makeup. Wilhemina Venable and Miriam Mead both command the bunker, dispensing torture towards those who reside there. People inside include hairdresser Mr.Gallant, his grandmother Evie, talk show host Dinah Stevens, her son Andre, the billionaire Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt, her assistant Mallory, and couple Timothy Campbell and Emily, all whom face the wrath of the two women. However, Micheal Langdon, the Antichrist, arrives and beings to throw the order into chaos as he intends to bring those worthy to a “sanctuary”. Later in the season, the arrival of Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Myrtle Snow as well as the return of Zoe Benson, Queenie and Misty Day, provides background of the world before the fateful apocalypse as well as the inclusion of characters from Murder House.

According to https://ew.com/tv/2018/10/11/american-horror-story-apocalypse-review/ Apocalypse is meandering its way toward a timely point: Specifically whether years of male domination will ultimately destroy our world as we know it

Which I agree especially since this is a crossover and a man caused this to happen, it makes you wonder if we need a new direction. In my opinion Apocalypse is a very good season so far and I highly recommend the season and if you have not watched yet please either catch it online wait till the whole season come out to watch it. I love how they did the crossover of Murder House and Coven and how they incorporated both seasons in the story line. Especially how the topic of an Apocalypse has been talked about through the years and shown in many shows as well,  with their own twist to it.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s post and please keep reading. If you have not read the previous post please do. Next week is about the connections through the seasons. Please check out the spoiler tab. Remember that I am Briana giving you insight inside the world of American Horror Story.

Cult

Hey everybody, I hope you have been enjoying the blog so far but like always there will not be many spoilers in the blog, if there was there would be no point in watching the show if you have not before. But there will be an extra spoiler in the spoiler scene tab for you to check out after reading the blog. Lets get started, if you have not read the previous post then lets recap. This is not to replace the last blog so please read last week’s post to know even more details than in this recap. Last week’s post was about the 6th miniseries called Roanoke and yes like the lost colony and if you watched the season you will know why. I wrote about a very important clip in the season that explains why so much is happening on the land, the plot, the characters, the background, and my opinion about the season as well. Now since that is out the way lets get started with a clip from the 7th miniseries of American Horror Story called Cult:

Now this is a little different than usual because in this post you just get a trailer than an actual scene in the show but there will be a scene from the season in the spoiler tab. But I used this clip to give you a sense of what this season is actually about which I think was very good especially since it was the year of the presidential election as well. Before we get into that lets talk about some background about the show first.

The season premiered on September 5, 2017, and concluded on November 14, 2017. Keeping up with the show being premiered outside of the month October as well. There are many cast members that return from previous seasons but there are two new case members Billie Lourd and Alison Pill. This is the first season to not have Lily Rabe in the miniseries as a regular cast member from previous seasons as well. Now that a little background is out the way lets get into the plot.

The show takes place in a fictional city of Brookfield, Michigan is left divided by the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Local restaurant owner Ally Mayfair-Richards is utterly distraught by Donald Trump’s victory and several of her longstanding phobias, including coulrophobia, hemophobia, and trypophobia flare up as a result. Similarly devastated is fellow Brookfield Heights resident Winter Anderson, a liberal college dropout. Contrarily, Kai Anderson, Winter’s estranged and manipulative brother, rejoices at the election results and is enticed to pursue political power. Kai recruits a disillusioned Winter and frustrated newscast reporter Beverly Hope. Ally finds herself relentlessly terrorized by masked clowns. Those close to her, including her psychiatrist Dr. Rudy Vincent question whether the attacks are real or merely anxiety-fueled hallucinations. Ally’s paranoia, escalated by suspicious activities perpetrated by new neighbors Harrison and Meadow Wilton, hinders her relationships with her wife Ivy and their son Oz.

According to https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/american-horror-story-cult-review-1034029 Wait, if this is an ultraviolent satire about how fractured political discourse in America has led to people effectively cloistering themselves with people who confirm their ideology before becoming an extended home-invasion thriller, isn’t it just The Purge?” My answer is, “Yes, this is basically Ryan Murphy’s The Purge,”

Which I completely agree and this was my thought when I watched the season of what would happen if this happened in the country and it showed two different extremes. In my opinion Cult is not the best season yet but it is a very good season  and I highly recommend the season. I like how they incorporated the 2016 presidential election because during that time, that was a very important deal in our country at this time. Especially one the country knew that Trump won the election and not many people were happy about this result as well. But I also liked how they showed that one of the main characters was very unhappy and alot of things happened because of the result of this election while Kai was very happy of this result. I liked how they showed both extremes in the season as well.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s post and please keep reading. If you have not read the previous post please do. Next week’s topic is about Apocalypse, but it will be different because the season is not over yet so the blog will be a little bit different. Please check out the spoiler scene tab. Remember I am Briana and I am giving you insight inside the world of American Horror Story.

Roanoke

Hey everybody, I hope you have been enjoying the post so far but like always there will not be that many spoilers in the blog because if there were, there would no point in watching the show if you have not before. My name is Briana and lets get started. If you have not read last week post then lets recap. The last post was about the fifth miniseries which is about Hotel, which is in my opinion one of the best seasons so far. I talked about a clip about what happens at the beginning of the show before anything really gets started, the characters, the plot, and a couple of connections, and even gave another spoiler scene in the new tab if you have not taken a peek yet. But to get more details about the season in general you have to read the blog first. Now that’s out the way lets get started with a short clip from the the sixth miniseries which is called Roanoke and as the post goes on you will find out why it is called Roanoke like the lost colony:

This is scene is a very important scene because it ties why everything is happening on this land and with the house.  Thomasin aka “the butcher” has found a very powerful witch who has put the colony in a better place to survive compared to before where the whole colony was about to die from starvation. Now everybody in the colony has gotten everything they wanted and now is ungrateful because they turned their back on god and now they feel bad. So now the witch wants them to kill everybody in the colony leaving “the butcher” for last. Which the butcher ends up killing the colony but by doing this on the blood moon it tethered them and anybody killed on the blood moon to the land and every blood moon they can come back and not disappear. But to find out what happened to lead to this situation or how it is dealt with, you have to watch the show.

But before getting into that lets get some background on the show first, It premiered on September 14, 2016 which makes it the first time the show debuted outside of October and ended on November 16, 2016. Now many of the cast members from previous seasons along with two new cast members Cuba Gooding Jr. and André Holland and how they tie in together is a story. Paulson also comes back as Lana Winters from Asylum in the season finale also and if you do not remember who Lana Winters is she is a reporter who got herself in a lot of trouble in Asylum. Now lets get into this plot.

Now the show at first is presented as a paranormal documentary called My Roanoke Nightmare and no it does not happen in Roanoke, Va but this season does incorporate the lost colony of Roanoke in the season though. The first half of the season, the show follows a married couple whose experiences are reenacted by actors. The couple is Shelby and Matt Miller who move from Los Angeles to a house in North Carolina. You have to watch the show to find out why they moved all the way to North Carolina. As soon as the couple settles into their new home, located on a farmstead where the Roanoke Colony settled after their infamous disappearance, strange and paranormal occurrences begin to haunt them and Matt’s sister Lee Harris and how she comes into the situation is a different story that you can find out by watching the show as well. The second half of the season is shown as found footage and shows the aftermath of production and the follow-up series called Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell.  And yes they are there during the days of the Blood Moon, which is created by the producer of My Roanoke Nightmare.  The producer has this bright idea to put the actors and the real life counterparts in the Roanoke House, mind you the actors think this is not real but the real life counterparts already know that this is real. Also to add to it there is drama with the actors and the real life counterparts as well so there is already going to be problems and the producer knows that as well. But because of this bright idea it puts the lives of the cast and the crew in danger as they face the true horrors within the Roanoke House.

According to https://www.ign.com/articles/2016/11/23/american-horror-story-roanoke-season-review Roanoke ebbed and flowed with its structural switches, piquing our interest occasionally whenever the seasonal landscape got upended, but whenever things settled back down it became, basically, the same carnage over and over.

Which I agree with this statement, when things got exciting it caught the viewers attention to go right back to the same thing that was happening in the whole season, it was very repetitive and predictable because of it.  In my opinion Roanoke is a very good season but it is very different compared to the other seasons because it gives the reality tv mixed with paranormal activity vibe but it makes sense why they did that. I loved how they connected history with this season especially with the lost colony of Roanoke and yes they use Croatoan in the show as well and how they do is when it is not the blood moon if anyone on the land sees someone from the lost colony they can say Croatoan and they go away but when it is the blood moon that does not work at all. I really love the story line and how they connect everything together including some things that are not talked about in the blog but are in the show. Even though each half of the season is different you can see how it has affected the real life counterparts and how taking this as a joke has a price to pay for all the actors and the crew. But I do recommend that you watch the season.

I hope you enjoy this week’s post and keep reading and please if you have not read the previous post please do. Next week topic is about Cult. Remember I am Briana and I am giving you insight into American Horror Story.

Hotel

Hey everybody, I hope you enjoyed the last post but like last time there will not be many spoilers because if there were, you would not have to watch the show. My name is Briana and lets get started. If you have not read the previous post lets recap.  The last post was about the fourth miniseries of the American Horror Story called Freak Show. Now the only difference last time is that there was more details about the fourth season. I talked about the plot, the characters and new characters, and how the fourth season connected to the previous seasons. This time their might be more spoiler scenes in the spoiler scenes tab instead of the blog, but that is a wait and see. But lets get started with a short clip of the fifth miniseries called Hotel.

This is a couple of spoiler scenes put together into one but these all happened in the first episode where a few customers come to check into the hotel but get greeted by a few other people or things that stay in the hotel permanently for many different reasons, but to find that out you have to watch the season because these are not the only people or creatures that pop up in the season and everyone who does that is important has there own story for why they are there, especially one customers that is there that is a really big twist in the storyline. But before I get into that, I will give you a little background first.

The miniseries premiered on October 7, 2015 and ended on January 13, 2016. Many of the cast from previous season are still in the Hotel cast as well along with Lady Gaga and Cheyenne Jackson joining the cast this season. I must admit these two characters will have you on the edge of your sit within the storyline and I love these two as characters along with a few others.  Hotel is not part of the anthological format like seasons 1 through 3, but just like Freak Show is connected to the previous seasons, Hotel is connected to the first and the third season.  That will be discussed later, but now it is time to get into the plot

The setting is a very familiar because American Horror Story is making a come back to California but most importantly Los Angeles, but this time it is in the Hotel Cortez. That catches the eye of a homicide detective which there is more to this detective than you know but you will find out more while watching the show.  The Cortex host many paranormal events and scenarios that are very disturbing. But they all tie in with the Countess because she tries to protect herself, children from the her past lover that seeks revenge on her, as well as John Lowe. Now her past lover is the man who built the hotel who cannot leave as well, the children which you would have to watch to understand who and what the children are, but especially how John Lowe a detective who is a guest that he knows of is being watched by the countess which he finds out later why he is a big deal at the hotel.

According to https://www.ign.com/articles/2016/01/22/american-horror-story-hotel-season-review  it became even more apparent due to dull storylines, a sluggish lead, and a very specific interior location that we rarely left.

Now I completely disagree with this statement because I think it was one of the best seasons I have watched but yes it is centered on this hotel and you do not leave the hotel but the hotel is part of the storyline which makes it impossible to leave. The storyline is also amazing and make sense and keeps you hooked. In my opinion out of the seasons of American Horror Story so far, Hotel is my favorite by far. Especially how everyone in the hotel and in the everybody who comes to stay gets tied into the hotel in a big or a small way but also how certain humans know about everything in the hotel including the big secrets that are being kept from John Lowe and His wife but that is a whole story that the show can explain better. But I loved how good the storyline is and how it keeps the viewer pulled in from the first episode and keeps the viewer guessing and wanting more each and every episode. I highly recommend this show and this season but do not skip ahead of the other seasons.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s post and keep reading, and next week the topic that is talked about is Roanoke and yes like the last colony but not in the way you think. Remember I am Briana giving you insight into American Horror Story.

Freak Show

Hey everybody, I hope everyone enjoyed the last post but like last time there will not be many spoilers because then you would not have to watch the show. My name is Briana and lets get started. If you have not read the previous post lets recap. The last post was about the third miniseries of American Horror Story which is called Coven. Now the only difference last time is that you had gotten a little bit more spoilers than usual and even a video from the season. I talked about the characters, a little about the plot, and some aspects about the show that stood out during the season. Now this week were going to talk about the fourth season of American Horror Story which is called Freak show and even how freak show is connected back to a the previous seasons as well but that will be discussed a little later in the post, but lets get started with a video

Now this spoiler scene is a spoiler alert but not a really big spoiler but this is a spoiler from the season where Elsa Mars makes the “freaks” perform on Halloween which is very bad because a dark spirit and his name is Edward Mordrake but before we get into how he fits into the story lets get some background about the show.  Freak Show is the fourth miniseries of American Horror Story that premiered on October 8, 2014 and concluded on January 21, 2015.  This season just like the rest of previous season is set in a different location and a different setting which is Jupiter, Florida but it should sound familiar because this location was mentioned in the first season of the show because Vivien Harmon has family in Jupiter, Florida which one connection through the season but that will be discussed in a later post.  The time the show takes place is in 1952, telling the story of one of the last remaining freak shows in the United States, and the show is struggle to stay around.  Many of the characters from the first three seasons are in the fourth season but there are a few new faces during the season who are Michael Chiklis and Finn Wittrock and they both tie into the story line very well most importantly Finn Wittrock character which is Dandy Mott and the only way how you will know how he plays a big part in the show is by watching the fourth season. What makes this season also interesting is that this is the first season where this season is not anthological.

Now lets get into the plot a little bit the show begins in Jupiter in a small quiet town in 1952. A troupe of human curiosities has just arrived in town, where Elsa Mars is the owner of the struggling freak show, which is one of the last freak shows in the United States, but she is using the freak show to gain her own fame and stardom. But there is a bigger story happening in town which she uses to get her new star performers who are Bette and Dot Tattler and there curiosity is that they are conjoined twins who are in serious trouble for the murder of their guardian.  When they arrive at the troupe they are greeted by the other freaks who are Ethel Darling the bearded lady, Jimmy Darling lobster boy,Paul the illustrated Seal, the giantess Amazon Eve, legless Suzi, Salty and Pepper, Meep, and the dwarf performs Toulouse and Ma Petite. Later Dell Toledo and Desiree Dupree join.  But many unexpected things start happening but to find out what they are you have to watch the show.

According to https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2014/dec/02/american-horror-story-season-four-freak-show-review  Freak Show feels more rounded, complete and assured than the previous three incarnations….t feels like they’ve finally nailed the formula they’ve been chasing around like a chicken round a pen for four years

I agree with this statement because the previous seasons they were trying to figure out a balance between everything but in this season they found that balance and has had that balance ever since. In my opinion this season of American Horror Story was good especially how they tied in the unexpected in the series and how the unexpected all tied in with the troupe. I loved how they made the new characters position in the story line very known in the season even if they were in the whole season or part of it, they played a big part of the season. Especially how the viewer can see certain connections in the show. Like how the town in Florida ties into the first season. How you find out how Pepper ends up in Briarcliff Manor which is the setting for season two, to name a few.

But I hope you enjoyed the this week’s post and keep reading, and next week get ready as I talk about Hotel which is my favorite season overall in the series. Remember I am Briana giving you insight into American Horror Story.

Coven

Hey everyone, I hope everybody enjoyed the last post but like last time not many spoilers are going to be shared in this blog because then you do not have to watch the show. Like I’ve said before I’m Briana and lets get started. If you have not read the previous post lets recap. The last post was about the second miniseries of American Horror Story which was Asylum, about the characters and a little bit about the plot. Now were are going to do a little things different and start off with a little video about the third miniseries of the American Horror Story series which is called Coven:

Now this scene is a spoiler alert because it is the scene where the coven finds out who the supreme is and they take a trip around the city to find out some very important information that you will only find out if you watch the show. But before we get into that, lets get some information about the season. Coven is the third season of the anthology television series American Horror Story. It premiered on October 9, 2013 and the season ended on January 29, 2014. The season does the same thing as the second miniseries which is Asylum. The same theme they keep is switching time periods which connects back to how the field trip scene begins. The season takes place in 2013, in New Orleans but it ties into the Salem witch trials because the coven’s ancestors ran to New Orleans to avoid getting killed in the trials but you can find out more if you watch the show. If you pay attention there is another type of witchcraft that New Orleans is known for and is shown in many other shows than this which is called Voodoo which makes it very hard for the Coven and you will find out why as the season goes on.  Other flashbacks go to the 1830s, 1910s, 1960s, and the 1970s.  At the end of the clip it takes you to the first flashback which is in the 1830s. There are many cast members from the second miniseries that is also returning along with some new cast members that makes Coven miniseries amazing. The new cast members are Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sibide, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett. Just to name a few new cast members, they all tie into the story line so well and bring the story to life.

Now lets get into this plot a little bit, pretty much the miniseries talks about the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America over the past 300 years. Which ties back to the Salem witch trials and the ones who escaped but the bad thing is the coven is facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped in the turmoil they have a new arrival, Zoe who has a very terrifying secret of her own, which is the reason why she came…. spoiler alert her gift is to magically induce brain hemorrhaging in any man by having sex with him and only way she found out that she was a witch after an incident happened at home.  Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona who is the supreme of the coven comes back determined to protect the Coven and is also determined to stay supreme of the coven by any means necessary and I mean any means, no matter the consequences. But to find out what she does to keep that power or even if she does stay supreme, you have to watch the show.

According to https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/oct/29/american-horror-story-coven-best-season Murphy has always approached horror through the female perspective, but here he takes it even further

In this season it is shown especially if you watch the whole season, because woman in the show have the power and are in control and when it comes to the New Orleans witches and the Massachusetts witches it is a power dominance between the two which makes for amazing tv.  In my opinion out of the three seasons talked about so far, Coven is by far the best season because of how they tie in the history of the Salem witch trials and also the witches and witchcraft of New Orleans and how both sides have to come together and fight together for a greater evil, to make the coven and New Orleans better. But also one of my favorite scenes in the show is when they have to perform the seven wonders to see who the next supreme will be which you will find out who it is in the show.  The seven wonders are a series of test that every supreme  has to demonstrate these abilities during their ascension to Supremacy, despite not necessarily  being depicted, but the only difference this time is that every witch in the coven gets to perform the seven wonders instead of just one of them. These seven wonders are Telekinesis, Concilium, Pyrokinesis, Divination, Transmutation, Vitalum Vitalis, and Descensum. What happens during these trials is something worth watching. Like the past two seasons of American Horror Story.

Asylum

Hey everyone, I hoped you enjoyed the first post, but I was not going to give away many spoilers because then you would not need to watch the show but instead just read the blog, but this is not a replacement for watching the season, but if you have not read the last blog post lets recap. The first post was the intro about who I am and if you do not know I am Briana and how this blog was started  my digital writing class but I was telling you about American Horror Story as a show itself and about the first season or miniseries called Murder House, which is not connected to the second season but is part of the eighth season, but I will get into that later in a different post. If you want to know more read the first post and watch the first season.  Now let’s focus on season two which is Asylum or the second miniseries of American Horror Story.

According to http://americanhorrorstory.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Asylum_(story)

the season premiered on October 17, 2012 and ran for thirteen episodes on FX in a new location with new characters, still making American Horror Story as an anthology series at the time. The miniseries was based in a New England sanitarium called Briarcliff Manor, presided by ministers of faith and science, the innocent and the mad run from greater dangers and their own pasts. Bookended by modern day explorations of the ruins, a darker mystery lies in wait for victims.  The main characters are Dr. Oliver Thredson, Monsignor, Lana Winters, Kit Walker, Grace Bertrand, Sister Mary Eunice, Dr. Arthur Arden, and Sister Jude. Now how these characters play a role in the show is that Dr. Oliver Thredson is a therapist on an assignment and a mission. Monsignor oversees Briarcliff Manor of faith. Lana Winters is a reporter willing to go to any extreme to get the story, Kit Walker is a patient with an incredible story. Grace Bertrand is an inmate with an extreme past. Sister Mary Eunice that becomes a vessel for the devil. Dr. Arthur Arden, a man of science that has a secret past life. Sister Jude a disciplinarian with hidden appetites. Now to see how all these characters storylines connect, you must watch the second season, which is very good if you keep up and pay attention to each episode because it comes full circle. Also, I should add that during Asylum starts in the present and flashes back to the past when Briarcliff was opened but the past is connected to what happens in the present, which is why you must pay attention to every episode during the second miniseries. Now, how it is connected in the first episode is because Briarcliff is closed in the present, but a couple breaks in to the asylum causing the husband to get hurt by someone trying to be Bloody Face, which starts the beginning of the episode in 1964 when the person who is accused of being Bloody Face is brought into the asylum. It is also important to pay attention because some of the characters from the second season show up again in later seasons which connect back to the second season, but that will be discussed in a later post as well.

Asylum was received by critics and fans very well even through they noted numerous plot holes and inconsistencies in the series, but the characters performances were praised. The second season received seventeen Primetime Emmy Award nominations more than other show along with four acting nominations for Lange, Paulson, Cromwell, and Quinto. With Cromwell winning for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a miniseries. With Quinto and Paulson winning their respective supporting categories at the third critics’ choice television awards.

According to https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/american-horror-story-asylum-review/2012/10/16/45e93428-16ed-11e2-8792-cf5305eddf60_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.76fba79b7584 By shifting “American Horror Story” to a new place and time, its writers are clearly telling us that history and its monstrosities often repeat themselves.

The series shows this very well in Asylum because during this time the church was very involved in mental health because people believed it was a spiritual issue to deal with while science is being introduced and how it does not mix well together or deals are being made. With concept it make Asylum a very good season with an amazing storyline that keeps the viewers hooked soon as you watch it.

Murder House

Hey everyone, my name is Briana Davis. I created an American Horror Story blog. Even though this blog started for class, I think a blog like this is overdue.  My plan for this blog is to talk about the show through the seasons because the show does not get old and always can always watch over because it is very interesting, but with each season it’s a fresh new start for the characters and the storyline does not get old. It is a way for everyone to talk about the season through the years but also the current season now. But I recommend each person watch the show to know what goes on in each season. Other than that, I want everyone to feel comfortable with this blog and wanting to comment and talk about the show as well and how you feel about what has been going on or had gone on in the show through the years.

Since this is the first post we should start off with the basics, first for anybody not knowing what the show is about here is an introduction. American Horror Story is an American anthology horror television show created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk since 2011 and produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television. The show is doing very successful and is on its 8th season. Each season is considered a miniseries, following a different set of characters and has its own setting. But majority of the cast stays the same within each season with actors added or taken off each season. Each miniseries has its own storyline with its own beginning, middle, and ending. The seasons aired so far are Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, and Apocalypse. The shows are not connected with one another other than majority of the cast staring in each season, but each season has their own story line accept for Apocalypse which is Murder House and Coven put together for the new season which has just started. After the Murder House aired, American Horror Story became the biggest cable series of the year. Along with being nominated for various other awards.  First lets get started with a scene from the season:

This scene is important because this is the scene where he is talking to Violet and he tells her the reason of how he died and the reason why he died is because he was involved in a school shooting and they found out who he was and the swat came to his house and killed him at his house, but before we get into that lets get started with the background of the season.

The season that started it all was Murder House which aired in 2011 and it took place in Los Angeles, Californian and centers on the Harmon family whom are Dr. Ben Harmon, Vivien and their daughter Violet and they move into a haunted house by every deceased occupant that has lived in the house. The Harmon family moves from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and her husband Dr. Harmon has an affair with one of his students. When they arrive the real estate, agent tells them about what happened to the previous owners of the house and how they died in a murder/suicide. Also, what was strange is how the neighbors become unwelcomed house guest and are tied in what happened in the house and how the maid is connected to the house’s past as well. Which leads to the Harmon’s demise because they end up haunting the house as well, except for their new born baby who is part ghost and part human, but you must watch the first season to know in full detail what happens.

Now according to https://www.ign.com/articles/2011/10/20/american-horror-story-murder-house-review  I appreciate that American Horror Story addressees this issue early on in the series, giving our family a reason to stick around the property a little while longer

The issue is that they do not have the finances to buy their house back so they stayed in the house even though strange things were happening and it led to their demise. Overall I feel that the first season is a good season and gave American Horror Story a very good push it needed to draw as many viewers as it did, but the seasons get better through the years. Murder House was so good which is brought back up again in season 8.

This is only the beginning, feel free to comment and tell me how you feel about the first season of American Horror Story. Remember I am Briana giving you insight into the world of American Horror Story
